How To Walk In An Attic Safely

How to walk in an attic safely - isn't that the age-old question?
The truth is, is that most people rarely if ever have to walk around their own attic. Most people poke their head up there every November to retrieve holiday decorations, and that's usually it.
But, what if you have go beyond the plywood decking where your decorations are sitting on? Say, to install a new light fixture or something?
The "normal" way for most people to traverse their attic is to walk on the ceiling joists - because as you know, if you don't. you'll fall right through the ceiling.
Unfortunately though that may sound easy on paper - often it's not. Joists will sometimes abruptly change direction, or some joists aren't joists at all, or some of those joists aren't even secured! Plus, what do you do when your attic has blown-in insulation covering and hiding those joists?
One of the easiest solutions to this problem is having a sturdy, portable platform with you.
